Sylvia Valencia Killed, Salvador Colunga Injured in Car Accident in Gonzales County, TX

Gonzales County, TX — December 16, 2023, Sylvia Valencia was killed and Salvador Colunga was injured due to a car accident at around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 80.

Officials said in their preliminary statements that the fatal collision happened just off of County Road 472/Thomas Road.

According to investigations, 47-year-old Sylvia Valencia was behind the wheel of a Mazda car going southbound on the Highway. 21-year-old Salvador Emiliano Colunga was the driver of a BMW going northbound. For reasons which are not confirmed right now, Valencia's Mazda veered left and collided with the BMW.

As a result of the collision, Valencia sustained fatal injuries. Colunga had injuries described as moderate. There were no other reported injuries. Right now, there are no additional details available to the public pending further investigations.
