Dennis Shemonic, 4 Injured in Truck Accident near Du Quoin, IL

Du Quoin, IL — November 9, 2023, Dennis Shemonic and four others were injured in a bus truck accident at about 3:10 in the afternoon along Route 51.

According to reports, 52-year-old Dennis Shemonic was driving a school bus with fifteen students on board and was southbound on Route 51 approaching the Kimmel Road intersection when the accident occurred.

For unknown reasons, the bus collided with the rear end of a flat-bed trailer being towed by an 18-wheeler which had been stopped at the Kimmel Road intersection. Shemonic and four of the students on board reportedly sustained injuries as a result of the crash. They were transported to a local medical facility by emergency medical services in order to receive treatment.

The accident is under investigation by local authorities. The weather and road conditions in the area at the time of the incident were not reported on, but photographs of the scene which have been published in the news depict overcast skies with dry roads. There are no additional details currently available.
