James Gautney, 5 Injured in Truck Accident in New Fairview, TX

New Fairview, TX — October 16, 2023, James Gautney and five others were injured in a truck accident at 2:00 in the afternoon along U.S. 81.

According to reports, 76-year-old James Gautney and five other people were traveling in a northbound Dodge Durango in the center lane of U.S. 81 just north of the C.R. 4421 intersection when the incident occurred.

An 18-wheeler was traveling in the left-most northbound lane, also on U.S. 81. For unknown reasons, the Durango turned left in front of the 18-wheeler, causing the semi's front end to collide with the back left of the Durango. As a result of the collision, the Durango was pushed into the median where it began to roll, eventually coming to a stop on its left side. The 18-wheeler came to a stop in the center median. All six of the occupants of the Durango, including Gautney, suffered injuries, two of whom incurred severe injuries. They were all transported to a local medical facility be EMS for treatment.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The weather and road conditions in the area at the time of the accident were reportedly clear and dry. No additional details are currently available.
