Dylan Lee Briggs, 1 Injured in Car Accident in Midland, TX

Midland, TX — October 22, 2023, Dylan Lee Briggs and another were injured after a single vehicle accident at around 4:30 a.m. along I-20.

Preliminary information about the accident says that it took place in the area of Interstate 20 and Midkiff Road.

According to officials, 23-year-old Dylan Briggs and a 25-year-old man were in a Toyota Tundra said to be going eastbound along the I-20 service road. The road was apparently in a construction area, and the service road goes into a right turn. The vehicle reportedly continued straight, went off-road, and across a demolished bridge. The vehicle then flipped over.

Due to the accident, Briggs and his passenger had apparently incapacitating injuries. The exact cause of the accident is unconfirmed at this time. They mentioned failure to control speed, inattention, and alcohol as possible factors. If that's true, I can't help wondering if they're actually getting the full story here.

I've handled hundreds of accidents involving alcohol, and I rarely see authorities taking steps to find out if there's a negligent alcohol provider involved who needs to be investigated by the TABC. It happens, but it's not that common. It's more likely they catch on because our investigations in the process of a personal injury case brings the establishment's actions to light, and even then they don't always follow up.

Maybe nothing like that happened here, but I've investigated enough establishments out in West Texas to know there are a lot more negligent alcohol providers out there than authorities are addressing. It wouldn't surprise me if such a business bears some responsibility for the injuries resulting from this crash, but that will depend on evidence I have yet to see from authorities.
