60-year-old Maria Melendez Estrada and 23-year-old Stephanie Trevino—who was pregnant at the time—were in a Volkswagen Beetle going southbound on McCart. While crossing Seminary, authorities say that an eastbound Kia Optima driven by an 18-year-old ran the light and crashed into the Volkswagen.

As a result of the collision, both Trevino and Melendez Estrada were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. It appears doctors had to perform an emergency c-section due to the condition of Trevino's child, but the child ultimately passed away.

Authorities allege that the teen driver of the Kia left the scene of the accident, but details suggest authorities know the driver's identity. They say they're recommending a charge for collision involving death. It's unclear right now if authorities are considering additional charges.
