Details aren't entirely clear at this time, but reports say that 57-year-old Rey Roland Martinez was operating a motorcycle eastbound along the highway. Witnesses apparently told the investigating officer that the motorcycle attempted to pass them but somehow lost control, causing the rider to fall from the bike. The bike continued riderless off the side of the road.

The investigating officer recounted that Martinez lost consciousness shortly after he began speaking with him and was taken to a hospital. While nothing has been confirmed right now, statements suggest authorities believe Martinez had been driving at high speeds and attempting to pass in a two-way turn lane.

I don't have any evidence that makes me doubt these specific details, but it stood out to me that the officer said they didn't get that much time to speak with the victim due to the victim's injuries. It makes me wonder just how much of these preliminary statements reflect the victim's side of the story. It's entirely possible his input would only confirm what police suspect happened, but it could be there's a lot more to this story that warrants consideration.
