Authorities say that 47-year-old Cheryl Escamilla was in a Jeep Wrangler going northbound along the Highway 249 service road. At the Highway 99 service road, police say a vehicle ran the eastbound light and crashed with Escamilla's Jeep.

Due to the collision, Escamilla had injuries described as incapacitating. The other driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, authorities said. They recommended a charge for DWI and reckless driving. My hope is that authorities continued their investigations beyond those recommendations to ensure there isn't a local alcohol provider also in need of consequences.

Something I talk about a lot on this blog is how little attention alcohol providers get when contributing to serious crashes like this. Usually, a particular department only starts looking into an establishment because my firm is investigating them for a personal injury case, and we bring evidence to their attention.

Authorities in Harris County, however, are more often on the ball when investigating drunk drivers and where they got their alcohol from. That way, they can pursue any relevant charges and even work with the TABC who may decide to issue fines and other penalties. There isn't any mention of those steps being taken right now, but hopefully authorities are working behind the scenes to be more thorough.
