Omar Gonzalez Rocha Injured in Car Accident in Titus County, TX

Titus County, TX — October 27, 2023, Omar Gonzalez Rocha was injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at 3:25 p.m. along F.M. 1402.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened at the intersection of F.M. 1402 and County Road 3270.

According to officials, 36-year-old Omar Gonzalez Rocha was in a GMC Sierra going southbound along F.M. 1402. At the intersection with C.R. 3270, authorities say that a westbound pickup ran the stop sign and crashed into the side of Rocha's vehicle.

Rocha reportedly had incapacitating injuries while the other driver had injuries that were less severe. The driver of that westbound pickup was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, and authorities recommended charges for DWI. Considering authorities say there were serious injuries here, I'm curious as to why they haven't recommended more serious charges.

A lot of times when people get hurt due to drunk driving, authorities will recommend as strong a penalty as they feel is appropriate. For example, I handled a personal injury case a while back involving a drunk driver. Not only did the authorities charge that drunk driver with intoxication assault, but authorities also charged the server of the bar that illegally over-served the drunk driver and contributed to the crash.

It makes me wonder if there's more to this story to explain why authorities seem to be recommending far lighter consequences for the allegedly drunk driver.
