Hidalgo County, TX — October 22, 2023, Juan Zuniga Rodriguez, Mark Munoz, Adriana Solis, and a child were hurt after an alleged drunk driving accident on McColl Road.

According to preliminary statements from police, the incident happened at approximately 12:31 a.m. at the intersection of McColl Road and Nolana Avenue.

It appears that 38-year-old Juan Carlos Zuniga Rodriguez was in a Nissan Sentra stopped along westbound lanes of Nolana at the traffic light. 40-year-old Mark Anthony Munoz Sr. and a 10-year-old boy were in a Toyota Camry and 38-year-old Adriana Solis was in a Hyundai Santa Fe, both at the light for eastbound Nolana. Details say both directions received a green light, but as all three vehicles began to enter the crossing, a southbound GMC Terrain allegedly ran the light and crashed with all three vehicles.

While no injuries can be confirmed right now, information does suggest at least some people went to area hospitals, and authorities also recommended intoxication assault charges against the GMC driver, who they say was under the influence of alcohol.

I read countless statements from the authorities, and I generally only see recommendations for intoxication assault charges when people are seriously hurt. These reports, however, don't mention any serious injuries. It makes me wonder if authorities have since looked into less severe criminal charges or if the injuries the victims sustained were more serious than these preliminary reports would suggest.
