Felix Jesus Perez Killed in Rollover Accident on I-35 in Downtown Dallas, TX

UPDATE (November 28, 2023): Additional details made public by authorities identified the victim as 21-year-old Felix Jesus Perez.

Dallas, TX — November 4, 2023, one person was killed as the result of a single-vehicle rollover accident along Interstate 35 at around 2:30 a.m.

Authorities said in preliminary reports that the crash occurred in the Downtown Dallas area along northbound lanes of the interstate. While the exact location is unclear, reports say that authorities diverted traffic toward the Dallas North Tollway.

Initial details at this time say that a pickup was going along the interstate when it somehow lost control. The vehicle then hit the side barrier and overturned. The driver of the vehicle, unidentified right now, died as a result of the crash.

Authorities have not said what they think caused the crash. I've seen some reports speculate whether authorities were looking into alcohol as a possibility. It's only natural folks will think of alcohol at 2:30 a.m. on a Saturday considering how common it is. A lot of the hundreds of wrongful death cases against alcohol providers I've handled involved bars over-serving customers and sending them out onto the road at closing time. But just because it's common doesn't mean it's the only explanation to consider.

Single vehicle wrecks can happen for all kinds of reasons, and not all are avoidable. For all we know, there was a tire blowout, an object in the road, or possibly even another driver who left the scene. Considering there's a family out there who lost a loved one, it would be more prudent to avoid jumping to conclusions until more facts are clear.
