James Lee Gilmer Sr. Killed in Hit-and-run Accident in West Memphis, AR

West Memphis, AR — October 29, 2023, James Lee Gilmer Sr. was killed in a hit-and-run accident at 9:15 p.m. along South Avalon Street.

According to reports, James Gilmer Sr. was bicycling on South Avalon Street at the intersection of Auburn Avenue when the incident occurred.

For unknown reasons, a Volvo struck 64-year-old Gilmer from behind before leaving the scene without attempting to offer medical aid to the victim. Gilmer was killed as a result of the collision.

The cause of the accident is unknown. Weather and road conditions in the area at the time of the accident were reportedly rainy and wet. The accident is still under investigation by authorities. No additional information is available at this point in time.
