One Killed in Police Chase on Highway 281 near Premont, TX

Premont, TX — November 1, 2023, a person was killed in a crash involving a police chase on Highway 281 in the area of Farm-to-Market Road 716 near Premont, TX.

Authorities indicate that on November 1, a fatal accident occurred when two vehicles collided near Premont for unknown reasons. According to reports, the crash happened sometime at night.

Investigators say a Brooks County officer was in pursuit of a vehicle heading south along Highway 281 when both vehicles wrecked. Sources say the impact caused the two vehicles to burst into flames at the scene, trapping both drivers. The officer reportedly escaped the burning car, but the other driver did not make it out. The cause of the crash has not been released at this time.

Officials confirmed that the vehicle driver, whose name has not been released, did not survive. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
