Wayne Campbell, Ladonna Campbell Injured in Car Accident in Denton, TX

Denton, TX — October 19, 2023, Wayne Campbell and Ladonna Campbell were injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident at 7:10 p.m. on Spencer Road.

Authorities said in preliminary reports that the accident happened in the area of Spencer Road and Brinker Road.

According to officials, 55-year-old Wayne Campbell and 56-year-old Ladonna Campbell were in a Honda Accord going eastbound along Spencer. A westbound Chevy Silverado apparently failed to yield turning left into a property, and this led to the Honda crashing into the pickup.

Due to the collision, it appears both Wayne and Ladonna Campbell had incapacitating injuries. There were no other reported injuries. Authorities allege that the driver of the pickup was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. There were recommended charges for intoxication assault, however official details aren't clear right now.

If what authorities allege here is true, I don't think anyone would disagree with authorities if they made those potential charges more official. But it might surprise people if authorities also said they were looking to charge whoever served the allegedly drunk driver. That's probably because a lot of jurisdictions have been slow in dedicating the resources necessary to properly investigate these negligent establishments.

Harris County, for example, has plenty of examples of local authorities partnering with the TABC to seek out and punish law-breaking alcohol providers. Unfortunately, in most other places, police don't bother looking into the bars until we report them during the process of our personal injury cases against those establishments.

Right now, it isn't clear what action if any officials are taking to ensure there are appropriate consequences for whoever contributed to the crash. Hopefully officials in Denton take some initiative and make sure no bad actors are slipping through the cracks.
