Anthony D. Valdez Killed in 18-wheeler Accident in Benton, AR

Saline County, AR — October 22, 2023, Anthony Valdez was killed as the result of an 18-wheeler accident at around 1:15 p.m. on I-30.

The Arkansas Department of Public Safety published a preliminary crash summary which says the crash happened near mile marker 108 on westbound lanes of Interstate 30.

According to the summary, 23-year-old Anthony Valdez of San Antonio was in an 18-wheeler going along the interstate. Also westbound was a second 18-wheeler which, according to authorities, struck Valdez's 18-wheeler while changing lanes. This sent Valdez's truck off-road where it crashed into "several" trees.

Due to the accident, Valdez sustained fatal injuries. It's unclear if there were any other injuries. Right now, there is no indication of charges or citations resulting from the crash. Authorities have yet to release additional details.

So what exactly happened here that led to one truck driver somehow failing to see another large commercial truck on an interstate in broad daylight? Could it be that something unusual occurred, or was this just an avoidable mistake that took someone's life? Most importantly, what are authorities doing to ensure they do right by the victim's loved ones?
