Herbert Cayruth Nelson III Killed in Truck Accident in Fairfield County, SC

Fairfield County, SC — October 16, 2023, Herbert Cayruth Nelson III was killed in a truck accident on Monday morning along northbound I-77.

According to reports, Herbert Nelson—a 44-year-old man—was travelling north on the I-77 in Fairfield County in the vicinity north of Blythewood Road when his car veered off the roadway for unknown reasons. After leaving the road, his car struck a guardrail. The impact with the guardrail caused his vehicle to swerve back into the lanes of northbound traffic where a semi truck crashed into it.

Authorities state that Nelson succumbed to the injuries sustained during the crash and pronounced him dead at the scene. Road conditions at the time and place of the incident weren't reported. Although it is unclear what caused Nelson's car to veer off of the road, the incident is under an ongoing investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. No further details are available at this time.
