Alonso Mario Lopez Killed, Joshua Serrano, 1 Injured in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident in El Paso, TX

UPDATE (November 2, 2023): Recent information from authorities identified one of the injuries victims riding with Alonso Mario Lopez was Joshua Serrano. The other victim has not been publicly identified. Right now, additional details about the crash are unavailable.

Authorities haven't released additional details about potential charges against the allegedly drunk driver, including whether or not they're looking into where that alcohol came from. If it turns out that a local establishment like a bar over-served the driver, they, too, could be making headlines.

That lack of information is admittedly concerning, though. Unfortunately, I've seen countless situations where it took my team and I investigating a bar for a wrongful death case and reporting their liquor law violations to authorities before they took steps to address those violations themselves. Maybe authorities here are just being cautious until they know more, but I learned long ago that relying on authorities to go the extra mile isn't always prudent.

El Paso, TX — October 15, 2023, Alonso Mario Lopez was killed and two were injured in an alleged drunk driving accident around 3:00 a.m. on Loop 375.

Authorities at this time say that there are pending charges for Intoxication Manslaughter in connection with the crash that killed 31-year-old Alonso Lopez. The crash happened in the area of Montana Avenue (U.S. 62).

According to current statements, Lopez and a 38-year-old man were in a Mazda 3 stuck in traffic resulting from a previous crash. While in that traffic, police say an intoxicated driver in a Nissan Sentra slammed into the Mazda as well as a Toyota Camry and a Chevy Silverado.

Due to the severity of the collision, Alonso Lopez succumbed to his injuries. His passenger and the alleged drunk driver had unspecified injuries.

In addition to Intoxication Manslaughter, authorities say there is a pending charge for Intoxication Assault against the allegedly drunk driver. Further information is unavailable as investigations continue.
