74-Year-Old Injured in Truck Accident on U.S. Hwy. 60 in Deaf Smith County, TX

Deaf Smith County, TX — September 12, 2023, a 74-year-old was injured in a collision with a semi-truck around 8:08 a.m. on U.S. Hwy. 60 in Deaf Smith County.

Authorities report the victim's Kia Sportage was facing south and attempting a lefthand turn from a private driveway to travel eastbound on U.S. Hwy. 60. While turning, the Sportage reportedly collided with a westbound Freightliner semi-truck.

According to officials, after the initial impact, the semi-truck continued west a few feet, veered off the road into a median, and jackknifed. The Sportage was reportedly forced into a clockwise turn and came to rest facing northwest partially in both of the westbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 60.

The driver of the Sportage was purportedly taken to a medical center with serious injuries and the truck driver was reportedly uninjured.

Authorities have not released any other details at this time.
