Two Killed, One Injured in Stray Tire Accident on Interstate 5 in Pierce County, WA

Pierce County, WA — September 21, 2023, two people were killed, and one was injured in a stray tire accident on Interstate 5 near Bridgeport Way Southwest in Pierce County, WA.

Authorities indicate that on September 21, a fatal accident occurred when a stray tire went through a van's windshield in Pierce County. According to reports, the accident happened shortly after 5:45 a.m. along Interstate 5 near Bridgeport Way Southwest.

Investigators believe the tire became detached from an unknown vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes of the interstate. The stray tire reportedly struck two van occupants, killing them. A third van occupant was injured, but the injuries were non-life-threatening.

The names of the victims have not been released at this time. No further information is currently available. Authorities are continuing to investigate the events that led to the crash.
