One Killed, One Injured in 18-wheeler Accident on Highway 71 in Bastrop, TX

Bastrop, TX — September 22, 2023, one person was killed and one was injured following a semi-trailer accident at 1:15 a.m. along Highway 71.

Preliminary information about the accident available to the public at this time shows that the crash happened in the area of the Highway 71 and Farm-to-Market 304 intersection.

According to officials, a Ford Fusion traveling eastbound along the highway apparently broke down for unspecified reasons. While broken down along the roadway, an 18-wheeler somehow was not able to avoid hitting the vehicle.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Ford succumbed to fatal injuries. It appears the truck driver had minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Currently, it's unclear where exactly the Ford had stopped and whether or not it had its lights on. Authorities also have yet to release details about the truck's speed or potential factors which prevented the truck driver from avoiding the victim's car in time. The crash is still under investigation.
