Children Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on U.S. 59 in Wharton County, TX

Wharton County, TX — July 17, 2023, children were injured due to a semi-truck accident at around 1:11 p.m. along U.S. Highway 59.

According to initial public information from the authorities, the crash took place along northbound lanes of the highway at the County Road 221 intersection.

In their initial statements, authorities said that A 43-year-old woman and three minors, ages 15, 12, and 8, were in a Toyota Rav4 traveling on U.S. 59. Up ahead, it appears that an 18-wheeler traveling the same direction attempted a left turn at the crossover, entering the path of the Toyota. As a result, the two vehicles collided.

Due to the collision, the 12-year-old in the Toyota had apparently incapacitating injuries. The 8-year-old had injuries described as non-incapacitating. It's unclear whether or not anyone else was hurt. Authorities did not confirm if there would be charges against the driver of the 18-wheeler. No further information is available.
