51-Year-Old Injured in Bicycle-Truck Accident on Highway 349 in Midland, TX

Midland, TX — August 20, 2023, a 51-year-old bicyclist was injured in a collision with a commercial truck around 1:56 p.m. on Highway 349 in Midland.

According to officials, the bicyclist was crossing in front of a parking lot driveway when she was struck by a Freightliner tractor. The semi-truck was stopped reportedly at the parking lot entrance waiting to make a right-hand turn to travel south on Highway 349 and the victim allegedly crossed in front of the semi-truck just as the truck began to attempt its turn.

The impact purportedly forced the victim and her bike underneath the semi-truck, and a witness to the incident allegedly caught the attention of the truck driver and the truck stopped moving. The victim was able to get out from under the semi-truck, but she was reportedly taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities have not released any other details at this time.
