Nelida Valerio Castañeda, 1 Killed, 3 Injured in Car Accident in Travis County, TX

Travis County, TX — June 27, 2023, Nelida Valerio Castañeda and another man were killed and children were hurt after a car accident at 4:07 p.m. on U.S. 183.

Investigators said in their preliminary statements that the crash happened near the intersection of U.S. Highway 183 and Vallejo Plains Lane.

According to current information, 35-year-old Nelida Valerio Castañeda was driving a Toyota Rav4 with three children traveling northbound along the highway. A Hyundai Elantra was going southbound. Authorities say that the Hyundai attempted to pass another vehicle, allegedly crossing into the northbound lanes. This resulted in the Hyundai crashing with Valerio Castañeda's vehicle.

Due to this collision, both Valerio Castañeda and the driver of the Hyundai sustained fatal injuries. The three children in Valerio Castañeda's vehicle had reportedly incapacitating injuries. Currently, authorities claim that the driver of the Hyundai had a registered BAC of .21 following tests. No further information can be confirmed right now.
