One Killed in Loose Tire Accident on Interstate 70 in Marion County, IN

Marion County, IN — September 11, 2023, one person was killed after her vehicle was struck by a loose tire on Interstate 70 in Marion County.

According to authorities, the victim was traveling west on the highway when a tire reportedly broke away from an eastbound pickup truck and its trailer. The loose wheel had reportedly bounced over the dividing wall and then struck the windshield of the victim's sedan. The impact purportedly forced the victim's vehicle off the highway down a reportedly "steep" ditch where the car then allegedly drove through a fence and overturned.

The female driver was reportedly pronounced deceased at the accident site. Officials may be withholding the victim's name until their next of kin is notified.

The pickup truck and its trailer had reportedly continued driving east, but later later located by state troopers.

Authorities have not released any other details at this time.
