Wesley Merrick, Alicia Eve Cornell Killed, Carrie Merrick, Kevin Dye, Darrin Wayne Shank, Jr., Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident in Washington County, MD

Washington County, MD — September 1, 2023, Wesley Merrick and Alicia Eve Cornell were killed, and Carrie Merrick, Kevin Dye, and Darrin Wayne Shank, Jr. were injured in a six-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Washington County, MD.

Authorities indicate that on September 1, a fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred in Washington County for unknown reasons. According to reports, the crash happened at approximately 9:40 in the morning.

Investigators say a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling along Interstate 81 when it rear-ended a tractor-trailer. Police say a pickup truck and three other tractor-trailers collided after the initial crash. Authorities have not determined the cause of the accident.

Officials confirmed the Tahoe driver, 55-year-old Wesley Merrick, and passenger Alicia Eve Cornell, 46, suffered fatal injuries. Tahoe passengers Carrie Merrick, 49, and Kevin Dye, 59, reportedly sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals for medical attention. Tractor-trailer driver Darrin Wayne Shank, Jr., 55, was also taken to a hospital.

Additional information has not been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
