James Rodney Porter Killed in Car Accident on Highway 158 in Ector County, TX

Ector County, TX — August 31, 2023, James Rodney Porter was killed in a car collision on Highway 158, northeast of Odessa, in Ector County- TX.

Authorities indicate that on August 31, a fatal crash occurred when a Tahoe and a Ford pickup truck collided in Ector County. According to reports, the crash happened around 7:30 in the morning.

Investigators say both vehicles were traveling east on Highway 158 when the Tahoe tried to pass the pickup. Sources say the Tahoe pulled ahead of the Ford pickup to avoid oncoming traffic, but the two vehicles collided. Police say the collision caused the Tahoe to roll, throwing the driver from the vehicle.

Officials confirmed the Tahoe driver, James Rodney Porter, 28, suffered fatal injuries. The Ford driver, Pedro Norman Mercado, escaped the crash without injuries.

No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
