Truck Driver Injured in Fiery Accident on I-59 in Pearl River County, MS

Pearl River County, MS — August 14, 2023, a truck driver was injured after the propane tanks his truck was hauling began to explode on I-59 in Pearl River County.

According to sources, an 18-wheeler hauling propane tanks had to make an emergency stop on I-59, north of Highway 26, when the truck and its tanks caught fire. Officials report the propane tanks were "traveling up to a quarter-mile away" spreading the fire to both sides of the highway.

The truck driver reportedly attempted to extinguish the flames but had to run from the truck when the flames got too intense. Another motorist allegedly yelled for the truck driver to jump into her vehicle for safety from the exploding propane.

The truck driver was later transported to a hospital, however, the severity of his injuries was not released.

Reports indicate authorities have not determined the cause of the fire.
