Teenager Killed in Semi-Truck Accident in Elkhart County, IN

Elkhart County, IN — August 26, 2023, a teenager was killed in a semi-truck collision on U.S. Route 20, east of County Road 31 in Elkhart County, IN.

Authorities indicate that on August 26, a fatal accident occurred when a vehicle and a semi-truck collided on U.S. Route 20 for unknown reasons. According to reports, the crash happened shortly before 1:00 in the morning in Elkhart County.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling along U.S. Route 20 when the driver suddenly stopped in the middle of the road and exited the car with a passenger. Police say an oncoming truck failed to see the young man standing in the road. The truck reportedly struck the vehicle and the driver.

Officials confirmed the vehicle driver, a 17-year-old high school student, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. It is unclear if the passenger was hurt in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
