Teen, Astulfo Cantu Jr. Killed, 3 Injured in Car Accident in Donna, TX

Donna, TX — August 27, 2023, a teenager and Astulfo Cantu Jr. were killed and three others were injured in a car accident at 3:20 a.m. on Expressway 83.

According to initial statements from Donna Police officials, it appears the collision occurred along the eastbound lanes of Expressway 83/Interstate 2 where it crossed Main Street.

Officials said in reports that three 17 year olds and an 18-year-old were in a Toyota SUV going eastbound along the expressway. Authorities believe a Volkswagen may have been going the wrong direction on eastbound lanes, causing it to crashed with the Toyota.

As a result of the collision, one of the 17 year olds in the SUV sustained fatal injuries. The other three teens were taken to a hospital. The driver of the Volkswagen, identified by local news outlets as Astulfo Cantu Jr., was also killed due to the collision.

At this time, authorities say intoxication is under investigation, but nothing has been confirmed right now as investigations continue.
