Christian Sykes Killed in Alleged Hit-and-run Accident in Jefferson County, TX

Jefferson County, TX — August 12, 2023, Christian Sykes was fatally injured due to an alleged hit-and-run accident at around 9:35 p.m. on Highway 73.

According to preliminary information about the accident provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred several miles east of Winnie along Highway 73.

Investigators said that 45-year-old Christian Sykes was in a Chevy Suburban that was westbound along the highway. It appears a Chevy Silverado somehow crashed into the back of Sykes's vehicle. This sent the Suburban off-road where it then overturned. Authorities allege the Silverado driver then left the scene.

Ultimately, it appears Sykes died as a result of the crash. A 5-year-old had unspecified injuries. As of August 18, it appears authorities arrested who they believe was the driver of the pickup. That driver faces pending charges for manslaughter and accident involving death. No further information can be confirmed.
