According to statements said to be from sheriff's officials, a Ford pickup truck was going westbound along Highway 2 at the time. Ahead, it appears a tractor-trailer flipped over and blocked highway lanes after it somehow crashed into a tractor "from behind." The Ford then crashed into the flipped tractor-trailer. It is unclear how much time passed between the two collisions.

As a result of the collision, the Ford driver was said to have succumbed to their injuries after transport to a Broken Bow hospital.
