Benjamin Schneider Killed, Michael Schneider Injured in Alleged Intoxicated Driver Accident on I-37 in Corpus Christi, TX

UPDATE (September 11, 2023): Information released by authorities identified the victims in the crash. They were 25-year-old Benjamin Schneider, who was killed in the crash, and 33-year-old Michael Schneider, who reportedly had incapacitating injuries. Further information about the possible charges against the alleged wrong-way driver is unavailable at this time.

Corpus Christi, TX — August 20, 2023, one person was killed and one person was injured following an alleged intoxicated driving accident at 3:30 a.m. on I-37.

Authorities said in their statements that the incident took place in the area of the Interstate 37 and Carbon Plant Road intersection.

Officials said that two men were in a vehicle that was going northbound along the interstate. It appears another driver was going the wrong direction, traveling southbound along northbound lanes. This led to the two vehicles colliding head-on.

As a result of the collision, one person from the vehicle traveling the correct direction sustained fatal injuries. The other occupant had apparent life-threatening injuries. The alleged wrong-way driver was accused of driving while intoxicated. There appear to be several pending charges, including intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. Investigations are ongoing.
