William Lawrance Towns Killed in 18-wheeler Accident in Botetourt County, VA

Botetourt County, VA — August 16, 2023, William Lawrance Towns was killed following an 18-wheeler accident at around 3:31 p.m. along Interstate 81.

Preliminary information about the fatal accident says that it happened along I-81 in the area of mile marker 163.

According to statements released by Virginia State Police officials, 61-year-old William Lawrance Towns was in a Dodge Ram pickup that was going along the southbound lanes of the interstate. While doing so, it appears Towns slowed as traffic slowed. A tractor-trailer reportedly did not do so in time, crashing into Towns and multiple other vehicles.

Due to the collision, Towns succumbed to fatal injuries. At this time, there is no reports of other injuries resulting from the crash. Additional details about the crash remain under investigation.
