Deputy, Drivers Injured in Truck Accident on U.S. 89 in Sanpete County, UT

Sanpete County, UT — August 7, 2023, a Sheriff's Deputy and two drivers were injured due to a truck accident at around 1:00 p.m. along U.S. Highway 89.

Officials with the Sanpete County Sheriff's Department said that the collision occurred outside of Manti near mile marker 258 along U.S. 89.

According to officials and based on dash cam video of the incident, a Deputy was along the side of U.S. Highway 89 speaking with the driver of a box truck. While the officer stood outside the truck's open passenger door, another smaller box truck slammed into the back of the stopped truck. This forced both trucks off-road, and the deputy was hit by a portion of the truck he was standing next to.

As a result of the collision, both drivers and the deputy sustained injuries which were described as minor. There were no other injuries. Right now, authorities say fatigue may have caused the crash, though there is no indication of citations or charges. Investigations are ongoing.
