According to investigations, 43-year-old Kasey Thompson, two children, and a fourth occupant were in a Chevy Suburban that was going southbound on U.S. 425. At Buckles, troopers say that Thompson slowed to make a turn onto Buckles. While doing so, however, it appears a semi-truck crashed into the back of the Suburban, causing the Chevy to catch fire.

As a result of the collision, the 9-year-old and 7-year-old in the Chevy succumbed to fatal injuries. Thompson and the other passenger in the Chevy were said to have non-life-threatening injuries. It appears there were no other injuries.

Police have yet to release an official cause for the crash, saying only that they do not believe impairment to be a factor. Investigations are ongoing at this time.
