Riverside Man Killed in Truck Accident on Highway 101 in San Martin, CA

San Martin, CA — August 9, 2023, a Riverside man was killed following a commercial truck accident at around 12:31 p.m. along Highway 101.

Authorities said in their statements that the fatal collision took place along the southbound lanes of the highway near the San Martin Avenue intersection.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 36-year-old Riverside man was outside of a vehicle that was parked along the right shoulder of the highway. Details suggest he was working to re-secure cargo on the vehicle. While there, it appears a box truck somehow went onto the shoulder and struck the Riverside man.

As a result of the collision, the victim sustained fatal injuries. It appears there were no other injuries. The cause of the crash is unclear at this time. Details said only that the truck driver made an "unsafe turning movement." It's unclear if any charges or citations are being considered. Investigations are still ongoing.
