John Alvin Schwiewek Killed in Truck Accident in Salem, OR

Salem, OR — August 12, 2023, John Alvin Schwiewek was killed as the result of a truck accident at around 11:00 a.m. off Turner Road Southeast.

According to officials with the Salem Police Department, the incident happened outside the Walmart along the 1900 block of Turner Road SE, just off Mission Street SE.

Investigators said that 81-year-old John Alvin Schwiewek was walking along the sidewalk at the time. While doing so, authorities say that a semi-truck was leaving the Walmart parking lot. The truck went through the exit, and it hit Schwiewek while doing so.

As a result of this collision, Schwiewek sustained fatal injuries. There were no other confirmed injuries. Authorities have not said if they're considering charges or citations. Investigations are still ongoing.
