Alioune Diop, Serigne Ndiaye, Kadiatou Barry Killed in Charter Bus Accident on I-81 in Dauphin County, PA

UPDATE (August 14, 2023): Further information from authorities identified the third victim killed in the accident as 21-year-old Kadiatou Barry. The crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE (August 9, 2023): Authorities released two names in regards to the victims killed as a result of the bus accident. They were 39-year-old Alioune Diop and 26-year-old Serigne Ndiaye. The third victim has not yet been identified. Details surrounding the accident are still under investigation.

Dauphin County, PA — August 6, 2023, three people were killed and others were injured after a charter bus accident just before midnight on Interstate 81.

Authorities with the Pennsylvania State Police said that the crash happened at approximately 11:49 p.m. in the Lower Paxton Township area.

According to preliminary statements, a charter bus carrying as many as 50 passengers was going along the interstate traveling out of New York. Weather at the time was apparently inclement due to heavy rain. Somehow, the charter bus lost control, resulting in the bus running off-road and overturning before then hitting a beam along the side of the road.

Details say that three people died as a result of the crash. The names of the victims have not yet been released. Others involved were taken to area hospitals, though it's unclear how many were hurt and how severe their injuries were. Authorities at this time continue to examine the factors leading up to the crash.
