One Killed, One Injured in Accident on Interstate 57 in Mattoon, IL

Mattoon, IL — August 3, 2023, a person was killed, and one was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 57 at milepost 185 in Mattoon, IL.

Authorities indicate that on August 3, a crash occurred when, for unknown reasons, two commercial vehicles collided on southbound Interstate 57 in Mattoon. Sources say the accident happened shortly before 1:30 in the afternoon.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash but confirmed that two people, one of the vehicle drivers and another vehicle occupant, suffered severe injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Authorities say the vehicle driver died while at the hospital. The deceased driver's name has not been released.

No further information is available. No other injuries were reported.
