Johnny Celestine Killed in Car Accident on 23rd Street in Galveston, TX

UPDATE (August 23, 2023): Additional details from authorities identified the victim killed in the accident as 62-year-old Johnny Celestine. Additional details are unavailable.

Galveston, TX — July 23, 2023, a man in a wheelchair was killed due to a car accident that happened just after midnight along 23rd Street.

Preliminary details released by authorities indicated that the accident happened at approximately 12:08 a.m. at the intersection of 23rd Street and Avenue J.

From initial reports, it appears that a man who was in a wheelchair had been attempting to cross the roadway at the time. While doing so, authorities believe a westbound sedan struck the man in the roadway.

As a result of the collision, authorities say they arrived to find the victim in serious condition. He was taken to a hospital where his injuries ultimately proved fatal. The victim's identity is not publicly available at this time. The driver involved reportedly stayed at the scene and does not currently face charges.
