Jose Medrano Perez Killed, Byron Obannon, Amy Obannon, 3 Injured in Alleged Intoxicated Driving Accident in New Braunfels, TX

UPDATE (August 8, 2023): Recent information identified two victims hurt in the crash and clarified certain details surrounding the crash. The two victims identified by officials were 39-year-old Byron Obannon and 40-year-old Amy Obannon. Their injuries were described as incapacitating. Details also show there were at least three other people injured. No further information can be confirmed at this time.

New Braunfels, TX — July 9, 2023, Jose Medrano Perez was killed and three were injured in an alleged intoxicated driving accident at 2:40 p.m. on Highway 46.

Preliminary details about the fatal accident show that it happened in the area of the Highway 46 West and T-Bar-M Drive intersection.

According to officials, the incident happened as a Ford Explorer was going along the roadway. 51-year-old Jose Medrano Perez was reportedly a passenger in that vehicle. Somehow, the Ford and a Honda Pilot collided with one another.

Medrano Perez sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Injured were a 40-year-old woman, a 12-year-old boy, a 9-year-old boy, and another adult. The woman and the 12-year-old apparently had serious injuries.

Right now, authorities allege that the crash involved a 16-year-old Mexican national who they allege showed signs of intoxication. That teen driver may now face charges for intoxication manslaughter. No further information can be confirmed at this time.
