Gregory Downer Killed in Box Truck Accident in Taylortown, NC

Taylortown, NC — May 22, 2023, Gregory Downer sustained fatal injuries due to a box truck accident at around 10:00 a.m. along Highway 211.

According to initial details about the crash, it happened at the light for the Highway 211 and Main Street intersection near the Pinehurst shopping center.

Authorities said that Gregory Downer was in a Toyota at the light. While there, it appears a box truck somehow crashed into the back of Downer's vehicle. As a result of the collision, Downer succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash. There were no other injuries reported stemming from the crash.

At this time, there are details to suggest the driver is facing charges including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, distracted driving, and failure to reduce speed causing a collision. Police allege that the driver was looking down at their phone leading up to the collision. This and other information cannot be confirmed pending further investigations.
