Details say that a 58-year-old Valley City man was going southbound along the highway at the time. While near the dump truck, news statements say that the truck "unloaded" a rock, causing it to bounce on the road and through the man's windshield. The rock hit the driver, resulting in fatal injuries. A passenger in that same vehicle apparently was not injured. No others were reported as injured, either.

Police identified the truck driver and suggest the reason for the incident is still under investigation. Potential charges are pending their findings.
