Clifton Matthews, 1 Injured in Truck Accident in Bowie County, TX

Bowie County, TX — May 8, 2023, Clifton Matthews and another person were injured after a truck accident at around 5:00 a.m. along U.S. 59.

Preliminary details about the crash say that it happened along the northbound lanes of U.S. 59 at the intersection of Interstate 49 into Arkansas.

According to officials, 51-year-old Clifton Matthews was said to be the driver of a Ford F-150 going northbound along the highway. While passing the intersection, authorities say that a Dodge Ram 3500 came off I-49, allegedly failed to stop, and crashed into Matthews's pickup.

As a result of the collision, Matthews had injuries described as incapacitating. The driver of the Dodge also reportedly had incapacitating injuries. In their statements, authorities said the Dodge driver claimed to have fallen asleep while driving. This and other factors cannot currently be confirmed pending further investigations into the details surrounding the crash.
