According to officials, the incident involved 30-year-old Julio Torres Jr., who was walking in the area at the time. Due to a series of events not entirely clear, a vehicle struck Torres in the roadway as Torres was walking. Afterward, that vehicle apparently fled the scene and did not stop to render aid.

Torres reportedly sustained serious injuries due to the crash, and reports as recent as May 16 indicate he continues to recover from those injuries. Police say they are searching for an SUV or truck that they believe to be the suspected runaway vehicle. Beyond this, there are few details available to the public. Authorities ask for anyone who may know something to come forward with that information as soon as possible.
