One Killed in Alleged Police Chase Accident on U.S. 59/I-69 in Cleveland, TX

Cleveland, TX — May 21, 2023, one person was fatally injured following a reported police chase at around 2:24 a.m. along U.S. Highway 59.

According to initial statements from the Cleveland Police Department, the incident started out in Montgomery County outside of Cleveland going into the city.

Authorities said they were trying to pull over a vehicle that was going along the U.S. 59/I-69. That vehicle apparently attempted to make a turn, but it went off the side of the road where overturned repeatedly. As a result of the crash, the passenger in the vehicle that overturned died due to their injuries.

Police allege that the driver got out of the wrecked vehicle and fled the scene on foot. It appears authorities say they arrested the suspected driver. Currently, additional details about the victim or potential charges are unclear as investigations are ongoing.
