San Marcos, TX — May 19, 2023, two people were killed as the result of a commercial truck accident early Friday near I-35 and McCarty Lane.

Initial details about the crash indicate that it happened along both northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate at approximately 8:00 a.m.

Authorities at this time say the events began as an 18-wheeler was going northbound along the interstate. It appears a tire blew out, causing the semi-truck to veer into the center barrier. This caused the dump trailer to overturn, and it threw its load of gravel into southbound lanes.

Gravel apparently landed on a southbound vehicle, resulting in that driver's death. The driver of the truck also reportedly succumbed to fatal injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time. Currently, there is not additional information about factors leading up to the crash. Additional details are pending further investigations.
