Eduardo Lopez, Alejandro Jimenez Hernandez, Josue Garcia Garcia, Luis Gomez Reyes, Javier Suarez, Alejandra Espinoza Carpio, Juan Leyva Carrillo Killed, Others Injured in Van, Truck Accident on I-5 near Albany, OR

UPDATE (May 31, 2023): Details from officials now identify the victims killed in the truck wreck. The workers were publicly identified as 31-year-old Eduardo Lopez, 36-year-old Alejandro Jimenez Hernandez, 30-year-old Josue Garcia Garcia, 30-year-old Luis Enrique Gomez Reyes, 58-year-old Javier Suarez, 39-year-old Alejandra Espinoza Carpio, and 37-year-old Juan Carlos Leyva Carrillo, 37.

Officials with the Marion County DA indicate there are seven pending charges of manslaughter against the truck driver. There also appear to be pending charges for reckless driving and DUI. The proceedings are ongoing at this time.

UPDATE (May 22, 2023): Recent reports show that authorities arrested a truck driver involved in the fatal crash, saying the driver faces DUI and manslaughter charges. Current allegations in news reports are that the truck driver was under the influence of at least one controlled substance. The victims are not yet identified, however it appears they were farm workers, according to statements from the Oregon labor union Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN). Further details are unavailable at this time.

Albany, OR — May 18, 2023, seven were killed and others were injured following a truck accident involving a van at around 2:05 p.m. on I-5.

According to current information available in the news, the fatal crash took place about seven miles north of Albany and Millersburg in the area of the Santiam River rest area.

Right now, the exact cause of the crash remains unspecified. Details at this time say only that there was a van with multiple occupants that was going northbound along Interstate 5. Somehow, that van became crushed between two commercial semi-trucks.

As a result of the collision, at least seven people were killed. The victims have not yet been identified. Others were hurt due to the crash, but the number of people hurt, the severity of their injuries, and their identities also remain unclear. Authorities continue to investigate the factors leading up to the deadly wreck.
