Maria Contador, 1 Injured in Car Accident in Hidalgo County, TX

Hidalgo County, TX — May 6, 2023, Maria Contador and another driver were injured after a car accident that happened at around 8:30 p.m. along La Homa Road.

Preliminary details about the wreck released by authorities indicate that the crash took place in the area of the La Homa Road and Woodrow Street intersection.

Investigators stated that 55-year-old Maria Contador was the driver of a Chevy Silverado that was traveling along the northbound lane of La Homa. At the Woodrow Street crossing, details suggest that a southbound Ford Expedition driven by an unidentified Edinburg woman somehow went onto the wrong side of the road. Doing so, the Chevy and the Ford ended up colliding head-on with each other.

Due to the wreck, Contador had injuries believed to be incapacitating. The other driver had injuries believed to be non-incapacitating. Right now, police suggest the Ford driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time, and there was indication of a possible charge for intoxication assault. This and other details aren't confirmed at this time.
