According to current information from state police, 30-year-old Shelby Noel Freitas was in a Chevy Silverado pulling a trailer eastbound along I-70. Ahead, authorities say that a vehicle merged from the on ramp to the left lane. There, that vehicle stopped for unspecified reasons. Freitas's vehicle braked to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead. As the Chevy slowed, however, a Kenworth semi-truck did not slow down in time and crashed into the Silverado and the trailer it was hauling. The semi-truck then apparently caught fire.

As a result of the accident, Freitas was taken to a hospital with injuries of unspecified severity. No one else involved was said to have injuries, according to authorities. Right now, there are no publicly reported charges or citations, and investigations into factors surrounding the accident are ongoing.
