Amity Smitson Killed, Miller Nix Injured in Alleged Hit-and-run Accident in Perry County, IN

Perry County, IN — May 11, 2023, Amity Smitson was killed and Miller Nix was injured in due to an alleged hit-and-run accident at 9:00 p.m. on State Road 37.

Preliminary details released by Perry County officials say that the crash allegedly involved intoxicated driving, as well.

It appears that Amity Smitson and Miller Nix were on a scooter traveling along State Road 37. While traveling along the highway, authorities claim that a truck pulling a trailer struck Smitson and Nix, throwing them into the roadway. That truck driver then allegedly fled the scene, but police have arrested a suspect.

Due to the collision, Smitson sustained fatal injuries. Nix was said to have apparently serious injuries due to the accident. Police say that the driver of the truck who allegedly fled the scene is also going to face charges for alleged OMVWI Causing Death. This and other factors surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation.
